CRA International is seeking a Consulting Associate to join our Energy & Environment practice in Hong Kong

CRA’s Energy & Environment practice provides expert economic and business consulting services to a wide range of energy industry clients around the world. The CRA team in Asia, based in Hong Kong, offers industry experience and exceptional strength in analytics; our consultants have expertise in every phase of the electricity production cycle—from fuel procurement to retail strategy—as well as hands-on experience helping clients manage market power; develop commercial strategies; and anticipate, evaluate and respond to changing environmental policies and regulatory pressures.

We are seeking a Consulting Associate for our Energy & Environment practice in Hong Kong to conduct analysis, communicate results, and contribute to the development of final work products. Under the direction of senior project managers, the consulting associate will be expected to perform and draw significant conclusions from complex analyses of industry information and market data. We are accepting applications for the Hong Kong office.

With minimal supervision, the consulting associate must be able to understand and communicate project context; handle complex information-gathering from clients by structuring and asking probing questions; and develop logical, well-written materials. Consulting Associates at CRA are expected to have and maintain superb technical skills and have an outstanding level of commitment to the firm and its objectives. Additional responsibilities

  • Participate in training new staff brought onto project teams and assist analysts and associates with difficulties encountered in their work
  • Pursue appropriate training or research to enhance individual skills and industry knowledge
  • Contribute to business development efforts

Qualifications

  • Advanced-degreed training (MA/MS or MBA) or equivalent experience in electrical engineering with emphasis on the analysis of large-scale power networks.  Knowledge of economics and finances is not required but highly desirable.  Must have strong interest in learning economics, structuring and operations of electricity markets.   
  • Must be an experienced user of the PowerWorld Simulator.  Knowledge of production costing simulation tools such as GE MAPS, ProMod, GridView or Plexos is a strong plus.
  • Must be interested and in the use of models of production cost and market-based models of electricity systems.  Specific experience with such models is a strong plus.
  • High-level skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis methods and techniques, linear programming and other optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with a professional service culture and ability to relate to people across all levels of the corporation
  • Fluency in English is required;  Fluency in an Asian language, particularly Putonghwa or Korean, is a strong plus
