A guide to CRA's San Francisco office

Welcome to SF!

CRA colleagues began working from home in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are encouraged to work from the location – home or office – where we are most comfortable, subject to local guidance and instruction which varies across our office locations. We do, however, miss the office and seeing our colleagues in-person each day! So that you have an idea of what to expect for when we return, we’d like to share a bit of information about the San Francisco office. We look forward to going back to 221 Main Street safely and when the time is right.

San Francisco is a hilly city on the tip of a peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. SF is known for its year-round fog, iconic Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, and colorful Victorian houses. Our office, located in the Financial District, is conveniently within walking distance from the Embarcadero BART Station. Staff in the SF office walk, bike, use the BART/MUNI train and bus system, and even take the ferry to commute to work from all over the Bay area. Interested in biking to work? Lyft offers a bikeshare program where you can pick-up and drop-off a bike at any Bay Wheel station throughout the city. Services like Uber and Lyft are also heavily relied on in SF – did you know rideshare prices are lower here than any other major US city?

The majority of our office is made up of the Life Sciences practice, with some representation from the Antitrust & Competition Economics, Labor & Employment, Transfer Pricing, and Financial Economics practices too. Our office environment is friendly, collegial, and easy-going. The office space itself is open, with cubes in pods of 6 occupying the center of our space. Surrounding the pods are senior staff offices and meeting rooms. Our building has a beautiful terrace where you can enjoy lunch and nice views!

For lunch, junior and senior staff usually grab food at a nearby restaurant and eat together in our kitchen. Some lunchtime favorites include MIXT (salads), Big Fish Little Fish (poké), Eatsa (build-your-own-bowl), and Spice Kit (Asian street food). On occasions when we have time for a sit-down meal, we like Townhall and Palomino – both within walking distance of the office.

Our tight-knit office enjoys group activities throughout the year – recent outings have included a tour of Alcatraz, whale watching, and a Thai cooking class. We also do an annual bike ride through Napa in support of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Beyond CRA-planned activities, SF has a host of experiences to discover. On days when the fog isn’t too thick, enjoy beautiful views of the Bay Bridge and walk to the Old Ferry Building Marketplace for fresh air and empanadas. Other fun excursions for you to try include walking up the piers to Pier 39, a basketball game or concert at Oracle Arena, happy hours at Rosa Mexicano, picnics and bike rides at Golden Gate Park, and comedy shows. SF colleagues also enjoy going to Fisherman’s Wharf, the California Academy of Sciences, and Alcatraz. If enjoying arts and city culture is your go-to, take a visit to SF MOMA, SF Ballet, or the Asian Art Museum.

We hope you make your way out to the West Coast to join or see us soon!
