Mining sector merger cleared in Phase 1

The European Commission has cleared Anglo American's acquisition of Kumba Resources, a South African mining company. Horizontal overlaps with respect to Europe arose mainly in the mining of zircon and titanium dioxide feedstocks (used primarily in the pigment industry). We provided economic advice to Anglo American during the European merger review process and, previously, during the South African merger review process.
