South African Breweries successfully acquire Rheem Crown

The South African Competition Tribunal has permitted SAB's proposed acquisition of the largest crown operation in South Africa after SAB made certain concessions to rivals in both the drinks and crown markets. The South African Competition Commission had previously recommended that the transaction be prohibited. We advised SAB on its response to the Commission recommendation, on subjects including efficiencies, vertical integration and the failing firm defence. Our work is cited in the Tribunal decision.
