CC clears DS Smith/LINPAC merger

The Competition Commission has cleared the acquisition of LINPAC Containers Ltd by DS Smith Plc. The Commission examined, in particular, the likely effects of the merger on the market for the supply of corrugated cardboard sheet. It concluded that the transaction would not increase the likelihood of coordinated effects that were previously absent so as to give rise to a substantial lessening of competition. We provided economic advice to DS Smith Plc both before the Office of Fair Trading and throughout the Competition Commission inquiry.
