At the end of a phase 1 investigation, the European Commission has approved the acquisition of the Salomon part of the adidas-Salomon Group by Amer, the Finnish sports hard-goods manufacturer. During this investigation the Commission examined whether the transaction would reduce competition in a large number of winter sports hard-goods markets. To address the Commission's concern that the transaction would reduce competition in the markets for cross-country skis, Amer has undertaken to reduce the scope of the cooperation agreement between Salomon and Fischer (an Austrian ski manufacturer). CRA International provided Amer with economic advice on the likely competition effects of the proposed transaction.
