The OFT does not refer the acquisition of Boots by Alliance Unichem

The anticipated acquisition of Alliance Unichem plc by Boots plc has been cleared at the OFT stage provided that satisfactory divestment undertakings can be agreed. CRA was retained by Boots plc during the course of the OFT investigation. The merger raised issues at both the horizontal and vertical levels in pharmacy services. The OFT concluded that divestments in around 100 local areas would be an acceptable remedy.
