The South African Competition Commission has approved the acquisitions by Lethimvula of Medscheme and Rowan Angel. Lethimvula is a healthcare investment company that was previously known as Netpartner. Medscheme and Rowan Angel are medical scheme administrators. The transactions were approved subject to conditions that ensured and confirmed that Netcare, a private hospital chain that previously controlled Netcare, would have no on-going influence over the operations of Lethimvula, Medscheme or Rowan Angel. Robert Stillman and Elina Koustoumpardi of CRA submitted an economic analysis explaining why, from a horizontal perspective, the combination of Medscheme and Rowan Angel would not substantially lessen competition in the market for medical scheme administration in South Africa.
