CRA held its 6th annual conference on Economic Developments in European Competition Policy in Brussels on 3 December. Nearly 400 participants attended the event, which was opened by Philip Lowe, Director General of DG Competition.
The conference covered a range of topics in European competition policy, including on-going state aid procedures in the banking sector, recent non-horizontal mergers, cartel deterrence, and a review of the vertical restraints guidelines. Damien Neven, Chief Economist at DG Competition, also gave his views on the Article 82 Guidance Paper that was adopted by the Commission the same morning. Bill Kovacic, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission in the US, provided his views on the possible future of US antitrust enforcement under the new administration.
