EC clears acquisition of Cumerio by Norddeutsche Affinerie following a phase II investigation.

On 23 January the European Commission cleared unconditionally the proposed acquisition of Cumerio SA of Belgium by Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA) of Germany following a phase II investigation. Both parties were involved in the production of copper cathodes, copper rod and copper shapes, which are used as inputs for the production of downstream processed copper products. The Commission following an in-depth investigation that focused in the overlap market of copper shapes, found that the proposed transaction would not have a material effect on competition, due to overcapacity in the market, substantial in-house production of shapes by other firms, ease of entry and competition in the downstream production of semi-finished copper products.

A team from CRA International's London office including Andrea Coscelli, Diana Jackson, Elina Koustoumpardi and Adrien Cervera-Jackson, assisted the merging parties throughout the European Commission proceedings.
