7th Annual Competition Conference in Brussels

CRA held its 7th annual conference on Economic Developments in European Competition Policy in Brussels on 9 December. Over 400 participants attended the event, which was opened by Damien Neven, Chief Economist at DG Competition.

The conference covered a variety of topics in European competition policy, including the ongoing debate on analysing unilateral conduct, joining consumer and competition policies, and state aid after the financial crisis. Philip Lowe, Director General of DG Competition, spoke about due process in antitrust. After lunch, panellists discussed transatlantic convergence in merger control and the current US Horizontal Merger Guidelines review; speakers on this topic included Nadia Calviño, Deputy Director General for Mergers and Antitrust, DG Competition, and Joe Farrell, Director of the Bureau of Economics, FTC. The conference concluded with sessions on the European Commission's review of vertical restraints, and cartel fines.
