Professor John Van Reenen awarded 2009 Yrjö Jahnsson Award

The Yrjö Jahnsson Award is Europe's most prestigious prize for economic researchers, given every 2 years to a European economist under the age of 45. This year's winners were John Van Reenen and Fabrizio Zilibotti. The Award Committee's report says of Professor Van Reenen's work that he "has made several contributions to the empirical analysis of labour markets, competition policy and industrial economics, especially in areas relating to productivity growth, management practices, R&D, intellectual property, and investment decisions. He has also done pioneering work on the organizational structure of the firm and its relation to innovation, contributing both with empirical evidence and measurement tools. ... The work of Van Reenen and Zilibotti addresses very relevant questions, with rich policy implications, using a diversity of research styles and methods, but always with the highest standards of rigor and excellence."

Professor Van Reenen is Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Director of the Centre for Economic Performance, and is also an academic associate of CRA. Professor Van Reenen has worked with CRA on many cases involving mergers, competition inquiries and private litigation, including the Microsoft case at the European Commission.
