Vicki Mertzanidou, Principal, has advised clients on a range of different antitrust issues before both the EU Commission and national competition authorities across Europe and in South Africa. Merger cases (acting for the merging parties) include Panasonic/Sanyo, Pernod Ricard/V&S, Ineos/Kerling, Owens Corning/Saint Gobain Vetrotex, Alcatel/Lucent, Linde/BOC, adidas/Reebok, and Solvay/Montedison-Ausimont before the European Commission; Capita/IBS OPENSystems, Lloyds TSB/HBOS, Dunfermline Press/Trinity Mirror, Seawell/Noble, Arqiva/BT SBS, William Hill/Stanley Leisure and DS Smith/Linpac Containers in the UK; and Sasol/Engen in South Africa. Her experience in industrial sectors ranges from white fuels and chemicals to telecoms equipment, athletic footwear, recorded music, betting and a number of fast growing consumer goods. In additional to merger cases, she has also worked on abuse of dominance allegations before the European Commission, the competitive effect of commercial agreements and the valuation of damages in commercial disputes.
Ms Mertzanidou joined Charles River Associates (formerly Lexecon Ltd) in November 2003. Prior to this, she worked in the field of competition policy for more than four years, advising clients on competition matters at RBB Economics and NERA.
