Dr. Katharina Sailer is an Associate Principal at Charles River Associates. Since joining CRA in 2006, she has contributed to merger investigation, including demand estimation and merger simulation, collusion and other Article 101 cases, and gave advice in regulated industries. Her work experience comprises a variety of industries including airlines, chemicals, construction, groceries, telecommunication, and TV markets. As part of a one-year secondment to the UK Competition Commission, she was involved in the UK groceries inquiry contributing sophisticated econometric analyses to inform market definition and to assess the impact of local competition. Katharina is fluent in English and German (native).

Katharina holds a Ph.D. from the University of Munich and an MSc (Diplom Volkswirtin) from the University of Cologne, both in economics. She has previous experience with L.E.K. Consulting, where she worked on commercial due diligence for a broad range of industries; and at the Kiel Institute for World Economics, where she conducted research on regulatory and competition policy questions in information and communication industries as well as on auction markets. Her thesis investigated competition in Internet auction markets using structural estimation, for which she received the award for the best dissertation from the University of Munich. As a visiting student she participated in graduate classes at the London School of Economics and in undergraduate classes at the University of Paris I, Sorbonne. Katharina presented her research at a large number of conferences and has published on the topic of competition in network and e-commerce industries.
