Engagements

Acted as an agent to sell technology patents

CRA was engaged by a venture-backed spin-out to act as an agent in selling patents covering a breakthrough high-speed memory technology. The patented technology was seen as having significant potential in commercial applications, such as computer memories, high-speed networking, and imaging applications. In consultation with management and the inventor, CRA performed IP due diligence, built a comprehensive valuation model covering the use of high-speed memories in various market segments, and assembled a marketing package illustrating the best use of the patents and know-how. CRA determined which companies would potentially be interested in acquiring the technology and made the appropriate contacts at each target company. The inventor also played a crucial role in the process of presenting the evolution and history of the technology. For the buyer, the opportunity to acquire the technology was timely and efficient. This transaction generated a cash infusion from previously untapped noncore technology.
