Dr. Irena Tsvetkova is a consulting economic expert in the Life Sciences Practice of Charles River Associates (CRA). She is an industrial organization economist by training and her expertise is best applied in economic consulting and litigation cases. At CRA, Dr. Tsvetkova engages in litigation and policy consulting work focusing on the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, and chemicals industries. Dr. Tsvetkova is particularly intrigued by digital health and genomics. Her litigation portfolio includes damages calculations, liability cases, and class action analysis in antitrust, intellectual property, breach of contract, and other litigation and arbitration matters. Specifically, Dr. Tsvetkova has experience in the following standard categories:
- Antitrust: pay-for-delay, Canadian Section VIII delayed generic entry cases.
- Intellectual property: commercial success, lost profits, and reasonable royalty analyses.
- Commercial disputes: legitimacy of business conduct (e.g., average wholesale price litigation), commercially reasonable efforts.
Dr. Tsvetkova’s dissertation research looks at technological progress and the structure of the biotech cottonseed industry. Her main paper estimates structural demand for genetically-modified cottonseed and evaluates the economic impact from the introduction of new seed technologies. In another paper, she looks at the extent to which technology and market factors determine product survival. This work demonstrates her ability to think analytically and to use advanced econometric techniques to analyze industry behavior.
