Maria Blanco is a vice president in Marakon’s New York office. She has led numerous engagements across all aspects of the investment banking, commercial banking, corporate banking, sales and trading businesses as well as in risk, transaction banking, and regulation. Examples of project work include:

  • Established and led a regulatory reform program at a top three broker dealer, managing  seven work streams with over 700 people involved
  • Conducted a diagnostic for multiple foreign bank regulatory reform programs and implemented remediation plans, including writing registration documentation
  • Redesigned the on boarding process for a foreign bank in to meet  regulatory reform requirements and increase efficiency by decreasing time to market
  • Restructured a top 5 equity derivatives business, including re-engineering of finance, middle office, and operations
  • Reviewed risk-adjusted profitability and overall strategy of a multi-billion dollar secured lending and securitization business unit for a leading investment bank
  • Overhauled the fixed income sales force of a major investment bank, helping them realign their activities towards high priority/profitability clients, and develop account review methodologies

In addition to client project work, Ms. Blanco co-authored Dangerous Markets, a book on financial crises, with specific authorship of chapters on causes of crises, banking in emerging markets, and technical appendices. She is on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic College Fund and also served on Bank of America’s Diversity Council and founded the BAC’s Women’s Forum. Prior to joining CRA, Ms. Blanco was a partner in the Corporate and Institutional Banking practice at Oliver Wyman. She was previously a managing director at Banc of America Securities and a senior member of the North American Wholesale and Investment Banking practices at McKinsey & Company. She is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French and Portuguese.
