Engagements

Computer hardware merger

CRA consultants were engaged by a major computer hardware manufacturer to provide economic analysis in connection with its proposed acquisition by a competitor in what was at the time the largest computer industry merger in history. Working both in the United States (in the context of an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission) and in Europe (in connection with the European Commission’s investigation), CRA staff developed comprehensive theoretical analyses, collected survey evidence, and evaluated large volumes of empirical data in connection with key issues surrounding this transaction. In connection with this work, CRA professionals met with agency staffs and authored and contributed to submissions to the agencies. The merger was approved by the FTC and the EC without conditions.
