A member of CRA’s team provided expert testimony on behalf of American Express who was sued in a consumer class action proceeding in connection with insurance premium charges for its Travel-Related Insurance programs. (Hoffman, et al. vs American Express Travel Related Services, et al., CA Sup Ct 01-022881). The team built a data warehouse of over 1.75 billion credit card transactions spanning a 13-year period to analyze those record-of-charge transactions that triggered insurance premium charges. The analyses conducted related to both class certification issues and the quantification of damages, and an expert report was submitted prior to trial. American Express was successful in its Motion for Summary Judgement, in part due to the expert testimony.
