CRA’s labor and employment experts conducted a Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) audit of a California retail outlet’s practices and records to ensure compliance with state labor laws and regulations, with a focus on wage and hour requirements.
The audit reviewed payroll and timekeeping practices, meal and rest break compliance, wage statement accuracy, California’s “Day of Rest” rule, company policies, and employee classification.
Upon completion of the audit, the retailer corrected significant errors in the third‑party payroll provider’s calculation of the Regular Rate of Pay, revised shift schedules to prevent late meals, and updated policies to address employees with recurrent meal‑period violations. These changes resulted in substantial cost savings for the company.
