Valuation of copper asset in South America

Tiago Duarte-Silva was retained in a commercial arbitration between two state mining companies in South America, related to an early-stage copper mine in the region. The Claimant argued that the Respondent had blocked the Claimant from obtaining a 49% stake in the mine after conducting some preliminary exploration under an alleged “farm-in” agreement, and that the Respondent had failed to reimburse the Claimant for its share of the mine exploration costs. The CRA team conducted a valuation of the mine using the market and cost approaches, and conducted a valuation of damages due to unpaid exploration costs. Dr. Duarte-Silva testified in Paris and was assisted by Michelle Sandoval Siman and Alene Hanson.
