Dr. Timothy Simcoe is an expert on the economics of innovation, antitrust, and intellectual property. Dr. Simcoe is a highly respected expert witness with expertise in standards and standards development and he is frequently relied upon to provide expert testimony on damages and liability.
Dr. Simcoe’s comprehensive portfolio of published academic research, together with his substantial testifying experience, positions him at the nexus of intellectual property and antitrust economics. He has testified in several complex, high-stakes, high-profile matters, including at the request of the US Department of Justice, in cases such as Microsoft vs. Motorola, Apple vs. Qualcomm, and the United States vs. Google Ad Tech trial. In addition to these cases, he has served as an expert witness and as economic consultant for global leaders in IT, life sciences, consumer electronics, telecommunications, and other sectors.
Dr. Simcoe is the David J. McGrath Jr. Professor of Strategy and Innovation at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. Dr. Simcoe is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He previously held appointments as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and as a Senior Economist on the US President’s Council of Economic Advisers.
Dr. Simcoe has published more than 50 articles, reports, and papers across an array of publications including: the RAND Journal of Economics, Research Policy, the Journal of Political Economy, and the Academy of Management Review, among others.
He holds a BA in applied mathematics from Harvard, an MA in economics, and a PhD in business from the University of California, Berkeley.
