On June 27, 2025, OCI Global (Euronext: OCI) announced the successful completion of the sale of its Global Methanol Business to Methanex Corporation (TSX: MX, Nasdaq: MEOH), the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol.
Methanol is a globally traded commodity used in the production of various chemicals like formaldehyde, acetic acid, and olefins, and as a fuel and fuel additive.
The transaction was valued at approximately USD $1.6 billion. The deal included two world-scale methanol facilities in Beaumont, Texas; OCI’s 50% stake in the Natgasoline joint venture (also located in Beaumont, TX); a low-carbon methanol production and marketing business; and an idled methanol plant in the Netherlands.
CRA provided OCI Global with economic assistance during the regulatory process across multiple jurisdictions, in particular helping to address the competitive constraints faced by the merging parties in the US and any potential coordinated effects in Europe.
The CRA team included Jeff Prisbrey, Spencer Graf, Andrey Minaev, and Anthony Tokeman in the US, and Dan Donath in the UK.
