CRA consultants advised on the $2 billion acquisition of Spectrum Brands’ battery and lighting products business by Energizer Holdings. CRA was jointly retained by counsel to advise on the transaction. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reviewed and cleared the transaction in the US without any conditions or modifications. CRA consultants submitted multiple economic and empirical analyses to the FTC showing that the proposed transaction would not lessen competition in household or specialty consumer batteries.
Energizer Holdings makes the Energizer and Eveready battery brands and Spectrum Brands makes the Rayovac battery brand. CRA analyzed differentiated products competition among brands as well as competition between branded and private label products. Peter Boberg and Andrew Dick co-led the engagement and were supported by a team that included Adriana de la Huerta, Josh Lustig, and other CRA consultants.
