For a major Asia/Pacific mining company, CRA conducted a global steel and iron ore market analysis. CRA made long-range projections of world production and consumption (segmented by geographical regions) of steel, direct reduced iron, scrap and iron ore. Iron ore production and consumption was further segmented by type (lump, sinter fines, pellets) and by geographic region. CRA identified future iron ore production by major mine and included estimates of depletion of existing mines, brownfield expansions and greenfield developments. Iron ore production costs were developed for two future years and estimates were made for future transportation modes including truck, rail, and ocean. Also included in this study were estimates of iron ore values-in-use in blast furnaces for major iron ores and a global iron ore market balance and future pricing.
