Margarita Patria presents the session titled “Load Forecasting Methods for Data Centers.”
This session will provide a review of load forecasing methods for data centers and how these tie into the IRP process and the challenges utilities are facing:
- Deterministic – Start with what you know. This bottom-up approach focuses on specific data centers under consideration – stated ramp rates, facility size, expected load factors, and risk profiles.
- Trend Forecasts – Benchmark against broader patterns. Leverages historical and projected data center growth – nationally, in hot markets like Dominion, and regionally – to anchor expectations.
- Probabilistic – Model uncertainty and risk. Monte Carlo simulations incorporate economic shocks and historical variance in project execution to generate a range of outcome and better inform planning.
