As prescription drug costs continue to rise, states are responding through Prescription Drug Affordability Boards (PDABs)—independent panels tasked with evaluating the costs of expensive medications and setting reimbursement limits to make treatments more affordable for patients.
At present, nine states have launched PDABs to tackle soaring drug costs. These boards, comprised of experts in healthcare economics, medicine, and policy, conduct affordability reviews and have the authority to establish payment caps for high-cost prescription drugs.
