Dr. Richard Bergin is a vice president in the Finance Practice of CRA, based in Boston, MA. He has over 20 years of experience providing economic, financial, and valuation advisory services in transactions, investigations, and disputes.

Dr. Bergin specializes in the economics of the global financial markets, concentrating on the valuation of various physical and financial asset classes, including firms, equities, fixed income, structured products, derivatives, and commodities. He has advised clients on market inquiries and enforcement actions brought by the DOJ, SEC, CFTC, and foreign regulatory bodies. He has directed cases involving monopolization, collusion, market manipulation, fraud, insider trading, and breach of contract. He has addressed issues such as valuation, loss causation, and economic damages, including lost profits, unjust enrichment, diminution of value, and reasonable royalty.

Dr. Bergin has given expert testimony on numerous occasions in US federal and state courts, in foreign litigation, before domestic and international arbitration forums (e.g., ICSID, ICC, FINRA, LCIA, AAA, UNCITRAL), and in regulatory proceedings in the areas of antitrust and competition, securities, international arbitration, environmental disputes, and the application of the economics of corporate finance. He has advised clients involved with investigations and disputes in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Middle East, Asia Pacific, South America, and Canada. He has addressed issues such as price, valuation, supply and demand, market microstructure, economic damages, lost profits, reasonable royalties, fraud, investment suitability, market manipulation, trading analyses, econometric analysis, forecasting, loss causation, assessment of class damages, market definition, construction delay, and event studies.

He has assisted clients in a broad range of industries, including:

Prior to joining CRA, Dr. Bergin was Managing Director at a business management consulting firm and Co-Leader of its Economic Consulting Practice. Dr. Bergin also advises clients on investments in the energy and chemical markets, including oil, refined products, natural gas/LNG, chemicals, electric power, and renewable energy sectors. He worked for a multinational oil and gas company for five years as a chemical engineer in refining, exploration & production, supply & trading on the oil & gas derivatives desk.

Dr. Bergin has taught courses and presented at conferences at institutions such as New York University and Harvard Business School on topics including economics, valuation, and finance. He received both his doctorate and MBA from Harvard Business School, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar and graduated with high distinction as a Baker Scholar. He received a chemical engineering degree from the University of Sydney, awarded with the University Medal.
