Situation
A state utility commission initiated a comprehensive management audit of an electric utility to due to concerns about the effectiveness of its management practices, organization, operations, and controls.
Approach
CRA professionals partnered with the utility to prepare them for the audit by evaluating key functional areas, including governance, organizational effectiveness, system operations, capital planning, asset management, reliability, financial controls, and customer operations. The work included extensive document and data review, management interviews, benchmarking, and evaluation of management processes and performance. Our evaluation supported analysis and resulting recommendations that were used to improve various areas of the organization ahead of the audit.
Result
The assessment identified opportunities to strengthen management practices, controls, and operational performance and resulted in actionable recommendations for the utility, its regulator, and customers.
