CRA provided licensing support and valuation services to research institutions involved in license disputes and settlement negotiations. On two unrelated projects, CRA developed valuation models and provided licensing advice in relation to patented technologies for which the inventors received Nobel Prizes. Based on publicly available market data, analyst forecasts, and license agreements, CRA developed flexible valuation models in determining the expected future licensing value of the at-issue patents in various geographies. CRA was also asked to estimate the appropriate settlement value in each case under various assumptions and potential scenarios. CRA developed decision tree analyses to quantify the risk-adjusted settlement value in both cases.
