As the number of approved orphan drugs in the US continues to rise, rare disease categories are becoming increasingly scrutinized. With expanding budget impact and more alternatives, US payers are no longer managing rare disease therapies uniformly. In this session, we will examine examples where payers have differentially managed multiple orphan drugs within the same category and distill the implications for manufacturers. We will conclude with forward-looking considerations for optimizing access in competitive markets.
