Maxime Cohen

Dr. Maxime Cohen is an expert in technology, artificial intelligence, and economics.
His academic research is on the cutting edge of data science and operations management with practical application to many different industries. Clients in the technology sector, transportation, finance, real estate, retailing, media, and healthcare have benefitted from Dr. Cohen’s expertise. He is a clear and effective testifier, able to assist courts in understanding pricing and marketing practices, firms’ use of data and algorithms, consumer decisions in online environments, and trade secrets.
Dr. Cohen’s consulting engagements have helped firms deploy AI and data-driven analytics to optimize pricing, retailing strategies, and vastly reduce costs. His innovative solutions for clients use optimization, AI and machine learning, stochastic modeling, econometrics, game theory, and field experiments. His clients include Google, Waze, Uber, Microsoft, Meta, Oracle Retail, IBM Research, Via, Spotify, Aldo Group, Couche-Tard/Circle K, L’Oréal, and Staples, among others. Dr. Cohen has filed expert reports in US litigation proceedings addressing a range of issues, including opining on whether certain trade secrets were generally known or readily ascertainable, examining issues around fake users, and assessing the qualifications of software. He was recently retained for two large tech litigation cases, one related to price gouging and one to user privacy.
Dr. Cohen is the Scale AI Chair Professor of Retail and Operations Management and Academic Director at McGill University, the Chief of AI Strategy of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal (one of the largest Canadian hospitals), and the Scientific Director of the non-profit organization MyOpenCourt.org. He was also a visiting professor and a Shubik Fellow at Yale School of Management. Dr. Cohen has received 40+ awards for his research and teaching in recognition of the innovations he brings to the profession and the clarity of his communications.
Before joining McGill University, Dr. Cohen was an assistant professor at NYU Stern and a research scientist at Google AI. He received a PhD in operations research from MIT, an MS in electrical engineering, and a BS in aerospace engineering, both from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
