Daniel Shawhan

Daniel Shawhan is a principal in CRA’s Energy Practice. He is a PhD energy economist who specializes in electric sector modeling and in the analysis and design of electricity markets, policies, and investments.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Shawhan has been conducting and leading high-quality analyses of potential investments, policies, and market changes. His work has shaped major national and state policies and regulatory outcomes. His public work has been used in news articles in the The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, The Houston Chronicle, The Japan Times, RTO Insider, and numerous other news outlets. His academic work has been published in more than a dozen peer-reviewed research journals.
Dr. Shawhan has served for fourteen years as an advisor to the senior management of one of the US independent system operators and worked with vertically integrated and distribution utilities. He has also testified before legislative and regulatory bodies.
Aside from his full-time work at CRA, Dr. Shawhan is an adjunct faculty member at Cornell University and a non-resident fellow at Resources for the Future. He holds a PhD in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University and a BA in Economics from Grinnell College.
