Dr. Tolga Bilgicer is an expert in conceptualization, administration, and evaluation of surveys, including conjoint analysis. Dr. Bilgicer also specializes in conducting marketing research, examining large complex data, and developing econometrics models. He provided expert reports, declarations, deposition testimonies, and jury trial testimonies in trademark, copyright, class action, and antitrust matters.
He applies economic analysis to matters involving consumer surveys, marketing research, consumer fraud and product liability, class action, antitrust and competition, and intellectual property matters. In addition to designing and conducting numerous surveys, he also rebutted various surveys and consumer choice studies. He further evaluated and criticized supply-side estimations pertaining to conjoint and choice studies, including Monte Carlo simulations and assumptions concerning the type of competition in the relevant market.
Dr. Bilgicer’s intellectual property expertise includes calculating reasonable royalty analyses and damages. His work for industry leading clients has included analyzing reasonable licensing, disputes arising in the context of Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) and Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) commitments and rates. His work has also included assessing economic incentives and firm behavior within standard setting organizations and defining markets. Dr. Bilgicer is also the editor of CRA’s monthly newsletter—IP Literature Watch—on intellectual property and competition.
Dr. Bilgicer’s testifying and consulting experience includes technology products, consumer financial products, pharmaceuticals, consumer packaged goods, plastic housewares, video games, and automobiles. He worked with clients, including Apple, AT&T, Bluetooth, Cipla USA, Dropbox, Ericsson, Ford, Google, IBM, Intel, Lenovo, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, Skechers, Sprint, Takeda Pharmaceutical, Verizon, and numerous other companies. He also provided consulting services to Federal Regulation Agencies, including the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Dr. Bilgicer obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia Business School in the field of marketing. His fields of expertise include consumer behavior, consumer decision-making, retail channel optimization, and marketing management. In 2012, his dissertation research received the Columbia University’s Deming Center Research Grant for Excellence in Business Research. As of June 2025—according to Google Scholar—one of Dr. Bilgicer’s peer-reviewed academic publications has been cited over 150 times by academic researchers. Another one of his academic publications received the Vithala R. Rao Award for Groundbreaking Paper in the field of marketing.
Dr. Bilgicer’s research topics include a variety of aspects of consumer behavior, including consumers’ decision-making, the effect of product attributes, brands, and the impact of firms’ information presentation on consumer purchase and consumption decisions. His research topics also include examining large consumer datasets and identifying different types of consumers (such as early adopters of new innovations and new marketing channels). Dr. Bilgicer also investigated the effect of different marketing mix activities—such as promotions, advertising, and retailing—on consumers’ buying decisions and retention rates.
